Family flowers
Most funerals feature flowers to some degree. If you’re family or arranging the funeral, they can provide a beautiful and fitting tribute to the person you’ve lost.
So you’ll probably want to choose something that reflects them and their life. You could opt for a traditional, timeless wreath or arrangement.
Or you could have something more bespoke created especially. Perhaps something in their favourites team’s colours, or a word, name or nickname spelled out as a floral display.
It’s your choice, and we can help you to create almost anything you like. If you’re struggling to decide, need more advice, or a have a particular design or style in mind, your funeral arranger will be happy to help guide you and make the arrangements on your behalf.
Respecting the family’s wishes
If you’re a friend, colleague or acquaintance, it can be even more difficult to know where to start. Should I send some, or not? If I am sending them, what colours should I choose? And in what style of arrangement?
Are they sent to the home or the funeral service itself? What florist should I use? And how much is it appropriate to spend?
The answer is that there are no right or wrong answers. As long as you’re respecting the family or the deceased’s wishes, everything else is very much a personal choice.
Check with the family if you can. If asking doesn’t feel appropriate right now, you might be able to find the information you need in any Funeral Notices or tribute pages that have been placed in a newspaper or created online.
Which type of flowers?
Flowers are chosen for their symbolism, meaning, and ability to convey emotions.
White lilies and roses are often used for their symbolic meaning or purity and love. While carnations symbolise remembrance, admiration, and affection.
Baby’s breath is often used as a filler in arrangements, its white colour symbolising purity and everlasting love. However, if your loved one is fond of a particular flower it can be a loving gesture to include these within your floral arrangements.
The most popular arrangements for a funeral include wreaths, sprays, bouquets and baskets.
Which florist should I use?
The florist we work with is Williamson Design Florist, who are based in Broxburn and are Scotland’s largest and longest established independent retail florist.
The Williamson family have three generations actively involved in the day to day running of the business supported by 60 plus dedicated members of staff.
While we can arrange all your floral tributes through Williamsons, you can of course use any florist you like.
Your funeral arranger will let you know the address date and time your flowers should be delivered to.
