When we lose a loved one, the first call is often the hardest one to make. Our Boswall funeral home is at the junction of Crewe Road North and Boswall Parkway, next door to Crewe Medical Practice and our Scotmid food store, and there is always someone here to answer the phone. We are the closest Scotmid funeral home to Warriston Crematorium, and a familiar part of daily life in north Edinburgh.
We care for families across Boswall, Pilton, Granton, Trinity, Drylaw, Crewe Toll, Muirhouse, Silverknowes and Inverleith, whether you need us today or you are planning ahead for the future.
Our office is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm for appointments, and we are always happy to visit you at home instead if that would be easier. There is plenty of street parking available around the office.

Funeral Arranger
I have worked with Scotmid Funerals since January 2013, initially as a Roving Funeral Arranger where my role was to provide cover where required for any of our offices throughout Edinburgh and the West of Scotland, a role which I found very rewarding and interesting. I have been permanently based at our Boswall office since January 2014.
I previously worked as an Architect’s Secretary, over a 20 year period, and prior to joining Scotmid I worked as a Support Worker in a residential unit for a disability charity. My experience working in varied environments has enabled me to develop a range of skills to help and guide families I meet.
I am Edinburgh born and live in the West of Edinburgh with my husband, my son and his family live in Whitburn, West Lothian.
Outside of work I enjoy swimming, reading, going to the cinema and attend a local Community Choir which is great fun. I also like to travel and have visited some lovely locations both in Britain and abroad.

I began working with Scotmid in 2000 as a Funeral Operative and progressed to Funeral Director, Senior Funeral Director and to my current role of Funeral Manager. I started at Fountainbridge then our main office and am now based at Angle Park.
Born and bred in Edinburgh I previously worked for The Department of Work and Pensions until I found my real passion in the Funeral Industry. I have never looked back and believe I am very lucky to hold such an important role in the local community. I find my role extremely rewarding when assisting families in their time of need.
The funeral services we offer in north Edinburgh
Every funeral we arrange from Boswall is different, because every family is. These are the main choices families make with us:
- Cremation funerals: a full service at a church, chapel or crematorium, followed by the committal. Most families we care for choose Warriston Crematorium.
- Burial funerals: a service followed by burial in a local cemetery. We can help you buy a new lair or arrange interment in an existing family lair.
- Direct cremation: an unattended cremation with no service, from £1,449. Many families then hold their own memorial gathering later, in their own time.
- Simple funeral: everything you need for a dignified service and nothing you do not, from £2,199.
- Children’s funerals: we make no charge for our services when a child is lost, and crematorium and burial fees for children are met by the Scottish Government.
- Pre-paid funeral plans: arrange and pay for your own funeral now, at today’s prices.

Our own fees are fixed by package. Third party costs such as flowers, a particular coffin, extra cars or newspaper notices vary with what you choose, and we will always tell you what something costs before you commit to it. Pre-paid funeral plans in north Edinburgh

Crematoria and cemeteries we serve from Boswall
We arrange funerals at every local crematorium and cemetery. From Boswall, the ones families choose most often are:
Crematoria: Warriston Crematorium, Mortonhall Crematorium and Seafield Crematorium. You can find contact details for all the crematoria we work with on our local crematoriums page.
Cemeteries: Warriston Cemetery, Comely Bank Cemetery and Rosebank Cemetery, among others. If you have a family lair elsewhere we will arrange the funeral there. Distance is not a problem.

What should I do first when someone dies in north Edinburgh?
Call us on 0131 551 5111 at any hour. We will bring your loved one into our care and talk you through the next steps, including registering the death. In Scotland a death must be registered within 8 days, and you can do this at any registration office in the country. You do not have to use the one nearest to where the person died.
Are you really available 24 hours a day?
Yes. Our Boswall office is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, but the telephone is answered by our own people around the clock, every day of the year, including Christmas and New Year.
How much does a funeral cost in north Edinburgh?
A typical cremation funeral costs £4,374 in total and a typical burial £4,724. A simple funeral is £2,199 and a direct cremation £1,449. We make no charge for children’s funerals. Our full price lists are on our funeral costs page.
Which crematorium would we use?
Most families we look after from Boswall choose Warriston Crematorium, but we arrange funerals at every crematorium in the area and further afield. If you have no preference we are happy to recommend one.
How close are you to Warriston Crematorium?
Very close. Warriston is the crematorium families from north Edinburgh choose most often, and we are a few minutes away. We also arrange funerals at Mortonhall and Seafield, and at Warriston Cemetery, Comely Bank and Rosebank for burials.
Can I arrange a funeral without coming into the office?
Yes. We can make all the arrangements by telephone, or visit you at home, whichever is easier for you. Many families find a home visit less daunting.
Do you offer help if we cannot afford the funeral?
Yes. We will always work to a budget you set, and we can help you apply for the Scottish Government’s Funeral Support Payment if you receive certain benefits. Please tell us early. There is more we can do at the start than at the end.
