We are the closest Scotmid funeral home to Mortonhall Crematorium, which makes us a natural choice for families across the south of Edinburgh.
We care for families across Liberton, Gilmerton, Moredun, Gracemount, Burdiehouse, Kaimes, Alnwickhill, Danderhall and Craigmillar, whether you need us today or you are planning ahead for the future.
Our office is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm for appointments, and we are always happy to visit you at home instead if that would be easier. There are no parking restrictions in the surrounding streets.
The funeral services we offer in Liberton

Pre-paid funeral plans in Liberton

I find the Scotmid Co-operative team friendly, extremely professional, and empathetic. I’ve been a Funeral Arranger with Scotmid Funerals since 2015, and I still get a great deal of job satisfaction and see it more as a vocation.
Before joining the team, I worked within a charity, as a level 3 Care Assistant looking after older people with Dementia in a Nursing Home in the Grange, Edinburgh. In my short time as a Care Assistant, I became a Key Worker and developed many skill sets, focusing on personalised centred care, and seeing the individual not the disease.
Before my 3 years as a Care Assistant, I spent 25 years as a regular in the British Army. I joined the army at 16 as a Junior Bandsman, and over my career carried out various roles, Medical Assistant, Chemical Warfare Specialist, Health & Safety Advisor.
I’ve travelled to many places around the world and been on many operations, including the Ambulance Dispute, both Gulf Wars, Northern Ireland, Belize, Bosnia etc, so I have lots of medals. I was eventually medically discharged and left Her Majesty’s Armed Forces in November 2012.
My wife and I have three children/young adults, Shawn, Gemma and Sophie who we are very proud of.

Originally from Glasgow, I moved to Edinburgh to pursue a career in the hospitality industry. I am passionate about customer care and that is why I enjoy being a Funeral Director so much now.
I live with my partner Allister in Midlothian and have one daughter, Suzanne. Previously I lived in a rural small holding and had numerous animals, a beloved Bernese Mountain Dog called Belle, a bearded collie, three cats, two pigs and Mr Poppy a house rabbit.
Outside of work I enjoy cycling and have completed many cycling challenges for our nominated charity, including many Pedal for Scotland ( 47 miles from Glasgow to Edinburgh), Edinburgh Night-ride ( 50 miles around Edinburgh on Midsummer Evening) and part of The Great Tour of Britain which was 70 miles from St Andrews to Musselburgh. I also enjoy hill climbing and would love to bag lots of Munros in the near future.

I began working with Scotmid in 2000 as a Funeral Operative and progressed to Funeral Director, Senior Funeral Director and to my current role of Funeral Manager. I started at Fountainbridge then our main office and am now based at Angle Park.
Born and bred in Edinburgh I previously worked for The Department of Work and Pensions until I found my real passion in the Funeral Industry. I have never looked back and believe I am very lucky to hold such an important role in the local community. I find my role extremely rewarding when assisting families in their time of need.

What should I do first when someone dies in Liberton?
Call us on 0131 664 3855 at any hour. We will bring your loved one into our care and talk you through the next steps, including registering the death. In Scotland a death must be registered within 8 days, and you can do this at any registration office in the country. You do not have to use the one nearest to where the person died.
Are you really available 24 hours a day?
Yes. Our Liberton office is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, but the telephone is answered by our own people around the clock, every day of the year, including Christmas and New Year.

Yes. We can make all the arrangements by telephone, or visit you at home, whichever is easier for you. Many families find a home visit less daunting.
Do you offer help if we cannot afford the funeral?
Yes. We will always work to a budget you set, and we can help you apply for the Scottish Government’s Funeral Support Payment if you receive certain benefits. Please tell us early. There is more we can do at the start than at the end.
