Our Calder Road funeral home in Sighthill
When we lose a loved one, the first call is often the hardest one to make. Our Sighthill funeral home is on Calder Road, next to our Scotmid food store and opposite The Silver Wing, and there is always someone here to answer the phone. We have been part of the Sighthill and Wester Hailes community for many years, alongside the food store that many local families shop in every week.
We care for families across Sighthill, Wester Hailes, Broomhouse, Saughton, Stenhouse, Longstone, Parkhead, Juniper Green and Currie, whether you need us today or you are planning ahead for the future.
Our office is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm for appointments, and we are always happy to visit you at home instead if that would be easier. There is plenty of free parking directly outside the office.

Funeral Arranger
I have worked with Scotmid Funerals since April 2004.
I started as a Funeral Arranger in the Portobello Office but had the chance to become a Trainee Funeral Director in that Branch and was able to arrange and then conduct all Portobello funerals. After a short while I was moved to the office at Fountainbridge (when it was the head office) and enjoyed working alongside my fellow colleagues.
I passed my foundation course in Funeral Directing in June 2005 and my Diploma in Funeral Directing in June 2006.
I was a Funeral Director until May 2016 but due to health had to step down and was lucky to have the opportunity to continue as an arranger/administrator in a new porta-cabin based at (Parkhead Gardens) Sighthill.
Prior to this I worked with the City of Edinburgh Council as a Housing Officer where I helped clients to be housed in Edinburgh or be re-housed to a more suitable property.
I enjoy working with people and like to think I help them in their hour of need. I also have had training to assist with people who want to set up a funeral plan. It is a very satisfying profession and one which I am very proud to be a small part of.
Outside work I love to read, do puzzles, go holidays and socialise with friends.

I began working with Scotmid in 2000 as a Funeral Operative and progressed to Funeral Director, Senior Funeral Director and to my current role of Funeral Manager. I started at Fountainbridge then our main office and am now based at Angle Park.
Born and bred in Edinburgh I previously worked for The Department of Work and Pensions until I found my real passion in the Funeral Industry. I have never looked back and believe I am very lucky to hold such an important role in the local community. I find my role extremely rewarding when assisting families in their time of need.
The funeral services we offer in Sighthill
Every funeral we arrange from Sighthill is different, because every family is. These are the main choices families make with us:
- Cremation funerals: a full service at a church, chapel or crematorium, followed by the committal. Most families we care for choose Mortonhall Crematorium.

Pre-paid funeral plans in Sighthill

What should I do first when someone dies in Sighthill?
Call us on 0131 202 6882 at any hour. We will bring your loved one into our care and talk you through the next steps, including registering the death. In Scotland a death must be registered within 8 days, and you can do this at any registration office in the country. You do not have to use the one nearest to where the person died.
Are you really available 24 hours a day?
Yes. Our Sighthill office is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, but the telephone is answered by our own people around the clock, every day of the year, including Christmas and New Year.
How much does a funeral cost in Sighthill?

Can I arrange a funeral without coming into the office?
Yes. We can make all the arrangements by telephone, or visit you at home, whichever is easier for you. Many families find a home visit less daunting.
Do you offer help if we cannot afford the funeral?
Yes. We will always work to a budget you set, and we can help you apply for the Scottish Government’s Funeral Support Payment if you receive certain benefits. Please tell us early. There is more we can do at the start than at the end.
