About Us

At Scotmid Funerals, we understand that arranging a funeral for someone close to you is a difficult experience. That’s why our fully trained team of funeral arrangers will guide you through everything involved. We’ve been carrying out funerals since 1927 with premises across Edinburgh – and beyond – and you can contact us whenever you need us, day or night on 0800 996 1927.

Part of the Scotmid Co-operatve Society

We’re part of Scotmid Co-operative Society, founded in Edinburgh in 1859.  Scotmid Co-operative operates around 300 retail outlets, which includes the funeral division, but also Scotmid Food, Semichem and a property division. As a Co-operative we focus on the needs of the people we serve, not the demands of shareholders. We’re proud to be at the heart of the communities we serve and are committed to being open, honest, ethical and professional at all times.

Scotmid Co-operative is owned by a membership of over 250,000 so becoming a member gives you the opportunity to truly be part of something bigger! Members have the opportunity to have a say in how Scotmid is run, ensuring we remain at the heart of Scottish communities.

Being a Scotmid member you’ll also get a discount of £100 if you take out a pre-paid funeral plan with us, and a further £100 discount is applied when a Scotmid member dies, and uses our funeral services. Find out more about Scotmid Membership.

Members of the National Association of Funeral Directors

We’re members of the National Association of Funeral Directors  (NAFD), the association represents the funeral profession at all levels of Government on legislative matters and campaigns on issues affecting not only funeral directors, but also bereaved families too. They provide informed opinion to Parliamentarians, Government agencies and consumer groups on all funeral matters.

As a member firm of the NAFD we abide by ‘The Funeral Directors Guiding Principles’ you can see a full copy of the code on their website.

Fair Funerals Pledge

We’re proud to have signed up to the Fair Funerals Pledge 2021. By signing the Fair Funerals pledge 2021, we’re part of a community of  Funeral Directors who agree to put transparency and honesty at the centre of their work. We ensure that our costs and terms and conditions are displayed in our offices and on our website, so that anyone can see our costs, as well as the approximate fees for third parties, such as the crematorium or burial fees.

Recommended by The Good Funeral Guide

We’re also proud to be recommended by The Good Funeral Guide, who are wholly independent of the funeral industry, and is dedicated to supporting, empowering and representing the interests of dying and bereaved people living in the UK.

Members of the Humanist Society of Scotland

We’re members of the Humanist Society of Scotland, they were formed in 1989 in response to a rising demand for a nationwide Scottish organisation that was open to all.

Humanist Society Scotland is part of a UK, European and wider international movement of people and organisations. In Scotland, Humanist Society members have a clear vision of a secular Scotland, and the activities that Humanist Society Scotland can pursue to achieve that end.
