Recording our new radio adverts

January 24th, 2024 in Scotmid News

You hear a radio advert, and it might catch your attention, or just be part of the background, but have you ever wondered how much time and effort goes into making that 30 second advert?

We’ve just released two new radio adverts, but the planning for these adverts started back in the autumn of 2023.

The challenge with any radio advertising is to get your message across within the 30 seconds available, and this includes any legal requirements at the end!

While the team here at Scotmid Funerals could have put together an advert, we’re probably too close to the subject matter for it to be different and effective, so we asked our friend Paul Mason from ‘Paul Mason Creative’ to help us write and record the new adverts.

Funerals is a challenging subject to talk about and promote at the best of times, and we could have just recorded a “We’ll be there for you when you need us” style of advert, which would have probably just blended into the background.

We wanted something that was different, which listeners could relate to, and was focused on us being in Edinburgh and the surrounding area. This was the challenge we gave to Paul and his team.

After several meetings and discussions, we settled on two new adverts titled:

‘Salt & Sauce’

‘Greeting Buckets’

Both adverts focus on your funeral wishes, ensuring your family know what they are.

Once the adverts had been approved, the recording studio Finiflex in Leith was booked and the two adverts were recorded. A fascinating process to see how it all comes together.

We’re very proud of these new adverts, and thanks must go to Paul Mason and the excellent team at Finiflex Studios. We hope you like them as much as we do!
