Transfer of Funeral Plans to Ecclesiastical Planning Services

What is changing?

Due to impending legislation your funeral plan needs to be transferred from Scotmid Co-operative Society Limited to Ecclesiastical Planning Services Limited.

From 29th July 2022, any firms that provide pre-paid funeral plans will need to be regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. In order to comply with these new rules we are partnering with Ecclesiastical, they will assume responsibility for the overall management and oversight of your plan, essentially it is the financial aspects of your plan that is changing.

It’s important to note, the funeral will still be carried out by us to the same specification and professional standards that were agreed when your plan was taken out, there will be no extra cost to you.

We will not be directly authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, but by working in partnership with Ecclesiastical we can continue to provide funeral plans you can trust.

Please see our frequently asked questions document relating to the transfer.

You will need to give us your consent

To enable us to transfer your plan to Ecclesiastical Planning Services you will need to give us your consent. You can give us your consent by clicking here.

What does this mean to you?

The funeral details remain the same as you originally organised, with us carrying out the funeral at time of need. There is nothing extra for you to pay.

Paying for your plan by monthly instalments?

If you are paying for your funeral plan by monthly instalments we will make arrangements for you to meet with one of our Funeral Directors, who will answer any questions you may have, and will complete the necessary documentation required for the change. They can either come to you or arrange to meet in one of our offices on a day and time convenient to you. We will be in contact with you.

If you have already fully paid your funeral plan?

If you have fully paid your funeral plan, we will write to you to explain the transfer, and the timings involved.

What does regulation mean to you?

Regulation (from 29th July 2022) will mean greater protection for the financial side of your plan, as you will be protected through the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) and you will be entitled to redress through the Financial Ombudsman Scheme (FOS).

What happens if I don't want to give my consent?
