I find the Scotmid Co-operative team friendly, extremely professional and empathetic. This position is a dream coming true, as I’ve wanted to work in the industry for years.
Before joining the team, I worked within a charity, as a level 3 Care Assistant looking after older people with Dementia in a Nursing Home in the Grange, Edinburgh. In my short time as a Care Assistant I became a Key Worker and developed many skill sets, focusing on personalised centred care, and seeing the individual not the disease.
Before my 3 years at Saint Raphael’s Nursing Home, I spent 25 years as a regular in the British Army. I joined the army at 16 as a Junior Bandsman, and over my career carried out various roles, Medical Assistant, Chemical Warfare Specialist, Health & Safety Advisor, Movements..….I’ve travelled to many places around the world and been on many operations, including the Ambulance Dispute, both Gulf Wars, Northern Ireland etc, so I have lots of medals. I was eventually medically discharged, leaving The Band of The Royal Regiment of Scotland, during the recent restructuring of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces in December 2012.
My wife and I recently celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We have three children/young adults, Shawn 20, Gemma19 and Sophie who is 18. I’m kept very busy, so when I get a chance I like to catch up with the lads, pull up a sand bag, reminisce and put the world to rights.
